The Best Christmas Books for Babies (0-12 Months)
“Moo, moo, moo, moo, moo, say cow, cow, cow!” I sang while my baby laughed.
There’s something special about introducing Christmas to your baby for the first time. They have no idea about this holiday or what it means and you get to teach them.
I always love introducing new concepts to my kids through books and Christmas is no exception.
So I put together this list of my favorite Christmas books. Use these Christmas board books for babies to help you choose some great books to introduce Christmas to your baby.

The Best Christmas Books for Babies (0-12 Months)
Baby Touch and Feel Merry Christmas DK
These simple touch-and-feel books are always an early hit with babies as their first interactive books. They have small patches of different textures. Perfect for Baby’s little hands and younger babies. Each page includes only simple text.
Baby Touch and Feel Merry Christmas is the Christmas edition of the DK Baby Touch and Feel series. It’s the perfect way to introduce items Baby may encounter during Christmas time with a texture for each.
Moo, Baa, Fa La La La La! Sandra Boynton
This book is fun for young children of all ages but is the perfect Christmas board book for babies. It’s the Christmas version of Moo Baa La La La. Moo, Baa, Fa La La La La! is set to the song Deck the Halls, using animal sounds instead. Sandra Boynton’s books are always funny, but I think this fun book is a special gem in her collection.
Babies Love Christmas: Lift-a-Flap Board Book Holly Berry-Byrd
If your baby is older (6+) and has more fine motor skills, he might love Babies Love Christmas: Lift-a-Flap Board Book. I like that this is a sturdy board book, so your strong 6-month-old won’t accidentally rip the flaps off. It offers questions and sentences that are completed by an item under the flap. My babies loved lift-the-flap books at an early age, so if this is your baby’s first Christmas, this may be a hit.
Christmas Kitten: A touch-and-feel book Rosie Adams
This is a cute, Christmas-themed touch-and-feel book for babies. The story rhymes, which helps keep babies engaged. And it includes some favorite characters, like Santa and Rudolf. Plus, the kitten gets a gift from Santa on Christmas morning. If you want to get your baby into the Christmas spirit, Christmas Kitten is a good book to have some fun with.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s Peekaboo Christmas Eric Carle
This tree-shaped book asks readers to play peekaboo with the Very Hungry Caterpillar. Each page has the caterpillar in a different place on the Christmas tree. See if your baby can spot it. This is a cute book for slightly older babies who can interact a little more. The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s Peekaboo Christmas is a great book to have fun with, without introducing traditional Christmas characters—like Santa, elves, or Rudolph.
My First How to Catch Santa Claus Alice Walstead
My First How to Catch Santa Claus is a fun, short book for babies that centers around catching Santa on Christmas Eve so they can give him a surprise. The book describes toys and tasks that are common to babies–like building towers with blocks. If you want to teach your baby about Santa and the North Pole, this is a great book.
Llama Llama Jingle Bells Anna Dewdney
This line of Llama Llama books is made specifically for babies and toddlers. While they aren’t as clever as the older kids Llama Llama books, they do rhyme and serve the simple purpose of introducing a concept engagingly.
Llama Llama Jingle Bells is about Christmas and all the things we do during this time—like baking Christmas cookies and buying gifts. It’s a great book to get young readers into the holiday spirit. These holiday books do a great job of staying vague about specific traditions so you can choose what you want to teach your child about the holiday.
Jingle, Jingle, Little Reindeer Finger Puppet Christmas Board Book Cottage Door Press
Finger puppet books are always a hit with babies (and toddlers). Finger puppets are a great way to bring in some fun and creativity. Plus, they can help you become more comfortable talking to your baby (Ho, 2022). My babies were always captivated by the fact that the head was moving while I read. I think they’re a great way to have fun with your baby. Jingle, Jingle, Little Reindeer Finger Puppet Christmas Board Book is one of a few Christmas-themed finger puppet books you can choose from.

Shh…Baby Jesus Is Sleeping Lisa Tawn Bergren
This sweet book is the perfect quiet, bedtime book that introduces the nativity story. Shh…Baby Jesus Is Sleeping starts by shushing each baby animal while Baby Jesus is sleeping. When he’s awake, they get to see the miracle of who He is.
This is the perfect book to introduce the Christmas story. It has beautiful illustrations. And it creates a calming effect and is a good way to bring reverence to the topic of Jesus’ birth at an early age.
Christmas in the Manager Nola Buck
Christmas in the Manager is a short board book that resonates with babies. It introduces different characters who were present at Jesus’ birth and explains their role. But does so engagingly and emotionally.
This beautiful book is a great way to introduce the story of Jesus’ birth to a baby. It doesn’t explain everything but it helps toddlers understand that this event is important. What better thing to help your baby begin to understand this Christmas?
